Cattail mats were part of the traditional homes of the Meskwaki people, mostly made during the winter months; however, with assimilation and modern technology, this style of making has been forgotten. Recently, these knowledge carriers took it upon themselves to revitalize.

Meskwaki Fancy dancer Keya Clairmont was showcased in a powwow spotlight dance at the Last Bear Moon Powwow on the Winnebago Nation Lands. During my travels to many powwows in the United States, I've always wanted to capture the light of a spotlight dance, hoping that a single moment of light would reveal a different story.
